I recently got my Pebble smart watch, and I want to share a few first impressions of the Pebble.
The Pebble is incredibly light, and even makes plastic G-shocks feel almost heavy.
The included strap is from rather thin rubber, and does not feel very comfortable to me at least. The great thing is that the watch uses 22 mm lugs, so you can use almost any 22 mm strap you can find, to change the look and feel of the watch.
The screen of the Pebble is readable in most situations, and if its too dark to see the screen you can simply shake your hand or press a button to turn the backlight on.
But the important thing is that in day to day use you can use the watch very well without activating the backlight (depends a bit on what watch face you choose )
There are multiple watch faces available for use with the Pebble, but limited software available as of now for the watch, but the final SDK (software developer kit) has not been released yet.
The Pebble it self is pretty handy, to see incoming calls to the iphone and read incoming sms messages by connecting the watch to your iPhone/Android via bluetooth. Email notification does not work for me right now for some reason.
A few things sorely missing right now are some basic OS timer, stopwatch, and some sort of world time app. Some are available as a third party app, but really these basic things should be in the OS.
As you can see there is no actual bezel around the screen area of the Pebble, and what I feer is that the screen might get scratched up, since its not a crystal but rather a plastic material.
As of now I just have very shallow scratches, the ones you can hardly see, and time will tell how well the screen will hold up.
Full review soon, but here are a few pics of the Pebble.
